Womans Talk, Korea’s leading online mobile beauty platform, secures Series A investment

Woman’s Talk, Korea’s first online mobile beauty home shopping has succeeded in attaining a Series A investment of US$1.7m (KRW2b). With their launch in February titled ‘Korea’s first online beauty home shopping’, Woman’s Talk is the leading video commerce platform in Korea.

The platform relies on a distinctively unique marketing strategy, utilizing a range of product ambassadors that appear in their media including reporters, actors, show hosts, comedians, Youtube channel hosts and even celebrities directly recommending a product. The product ambassadors provide their tips, know-how and a review of the product.

Woman’s Talk is viewed by its users as a ‘friendly’ platform for the way in which it provides users with pricing and product related information. A key factor in the success of the business is the requirement for product brands to provide their most competitive price and product guarantee. Woman’s Talk in return provides a lower service fee compared to traditional distribution services whilst also providing the full marketing support required to promote the product.

The company on average throughputs 2,000 items and has recently throughput 20,000 items with revenue on the rise. Woman’s Talk is aiming for an even stronger marketing campaign through Naver TV Case, LG U-Plus video portal, Anara, Hwawei, Surprise, Facebook, Instagram and Celebrity magazines.

Their 20 number of makeup tutorials have been broadcast through Naver TV Case where it has reached more than 500 thousand vies as well as on their Youtube channel which too has reached over 500 thousand views. This year, the company aims to exceed more than 2 million view through the Naver TV and Youtube.

Through this investment, the company will focus on creating more contents that can be utilized in a range of different platforms and applications.

Kim Kang Il form Woman’s Talk commented, “This investment is Woman’s Talk’s foundation for a global launch”. “We plan on producing a greater variety of contents using popular celebrities”.

In a joint statements from IMM’s team leader (Na Gwang  Guk), director (Jeon Hyoung Sun), CyberAgent’s representative (Yoon Jung Ho) the investors commented, “Mobile video content marketing will become an important future business. Our decision to invest looked at the capability of Woman’s Talk to create contents and the contents that the company had already produced”. “We see great potential to target not only Korea but the global market”.
