Sony has revealed perhaps the best TV in the World. It is only a prototype, with no details released about availability or price (guesses around $25k would not be far off based on pricing of other models), but Sony has beaten off rivals by including the two new technologies of the moment (OLED and 4K) in one breath-taking 56 inch set.

The Ultra HD Resolution is a massive 3840-by-2160 pixels (hence 4k), which is four times that found in an HDTV set. OLED is a feature released by both Samsung and LG at last year’s CES. According to CNET “OLEDs work by putting electricity through certain materials that glow specific colors. No other TV technology creates light directly like this.” When this tech is combined with quadruple the pixels in 4K you can imagine the result.

Samsung’s has not combined these two technologies as Sony has, but has included them individually on other TV options. Samsung also claims the largest 4K screen in the world with a  massive 85 inch 4K HDTV, containing a powerful 1.35-GHz A15 quad-core processor to handle various Smart functions, as well as converting video to 4K resolution.

LG has also revealed a new TV, which is currently available in South Korea for $12,000 and will be released in the US in March this year. “The TV is about 4 millimeters thick, weighs less than 22 pounds and boasts a 55-inch screen which features a four-color pixel system, color refiner and infinite contrast ratio” according to CBS news”. Other news out at CES 2013 from LG has been scant, but we are expecting new mobile handsets from them to be released around March, including a new ‘phablet’, to rival Samsung’s.
