The number of members of SoCar, the largest car sharing community in Korea, passed 500 thousand members last year. According to SoCar, the cumulative number of car sharing members is around 500 thousand members, which is 5 times the previous year. Furthermore, the cumulative number of car sharing is around 520 thousand, which means the average user is around 2,500~3,000 per day. Due to the increased number of members, 700 destinations and 1,400 cars are newly added.
SoCar expects to have more than 1 million members towards the end of this year, considering the rapid growth and usage rate of newly added destinations.
As members and needs increase, it is necessary to increase the number of applicable parking lots and cars. With 1,800 cars in 1,100 parking lots, they anticipate exceeding 2,000 cars this month. They plan to expand infrastructures to concentrated displacement in high-usage area so that people can reach car sharing parking lots within 5 minutes in Seoul.
Director Jiman Kim in SoCar is “planning to upgrade service quality via expanding infrastructure, taking this year as the year of car sharing culture.” Also he states, “to establish stable car sharing culture, SoCar plans to set three primary goals such as war with smoking in shared cars, administering 24-hr hotline to collect customers inquiries and complaints, and constructing a system to closely monitor car condition.”
