There are some seriously heavyweight VCs at the beGLOBAL conference in Palo Alto, September 13. One highlight will surely be the Seed Funds Going Global Panel, featuring top names such as David Lee (SV Angel), Jeff Clavier (SoftTech Ventures), Aydin Senkut (Felicis Ventures), Christine Tsai (500 Startups) and Sarah Lacy (PandoDaily – moderator). The Line up for this panel is so impressive that we have divided the introduction in two parts. Yesterday we introduced David Lee and Jeff Clavier. Today we will be presenting Aydin Senkut, Christine Tsai and Sarah Lacy.
Aydin Senkut is the Founder and Managing Director of Felicis Ventures. He has been named one of the top 25 tech angels by Businessweek recently and was featured as one of the top 8 up and coming VCs by Forbes’ Midas List. Prior to starting Felicis Ventures, Aydin was Google’s first product manager and launched its first 10 international sites in 2000, flying all over the world negotiating global partnerships for Google. Google also taught Senkut the importance of several other principles for managing a tech start-up such as to be skeptical of conventional wisdom, to seek original solutions, to use data to help make decisions, to hire the smartest people. Thus began a virtuous cycle in which Senkut was able to work with outstanding start-ups such as Mint, Meraki, Wildfire and Practice Fusion. It also allowed him to raise two successive institutionally backed venture funds with over $110 million under management and over 30 exits in five years.
Christine Tsai is a Partner at 500 Startups. As part of the investment team, she works closely with early-stage startups, directs the 500 Accelerator program, platform partnerships with companies like Google, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and 500’s distribution efforts for the portfolio. Prior to 500, Christine spent many years at Google and YouTube, working on developer platforms and leading Google I/O, Google’s annual developer conference
Sarah Lacy, founder and editor-in-chief of PandoDaily, the site of record for Silicon Valley, will moderate the panel. She is an award winning journalist and author of two critically acclaimed books, “Once You’re Lucky, Twice You’re Good: The Rebirth of Silicon Valley and the Rise of Web 2.0” and ”Brilliant, Crazy, Cocky: How the Top 1% of Entrepreneurs Profit from Global Chaos”. She has been covering technology news for over 15 years, most recently as a senior editor for TechCrunch.
