Samsung’s improved mobile VR headset is ready for the taking the ordering. Oculus announced Samsung's Gear VR will ship on November 20 with pre-orders kicking off Tuesday. The device costs $99, and can be purchased through Samsung's website, Amazon and Best Buy. (Full user manual link)
Samsung built the new Gear VR to be lighter and more comfortable to wear than its predecessor. The headset can play "dozens of new made-for-VR games" headed to the Oculus platform this year, including CCP's Gunjack and Ustwo Games' Lands End. You'll also be able to watch content from Samsung's premium Milk VR service, Netflix, and Oculus Video, which offers "thousands" of videos and films from Lionsgate, 20th Century Fox, Twitch, and Vimeo
The Gear VR 2015 supports the Galaxy Note5, Galaxy S6 edge+, Galaxy S6 edge, and Galaxy S6. Galaxy S6 edge+ and Galaxy Note 5.
In short, companies are seeing VR as the next step in multimedia and are betting big to make it happen. Whether or not the Gear VR becomes a lasting or memorable part of that move is yet to be seen.
