KT has recently announced that it will launch a Korea-Japan Wi-Fi automatic roaming service. The service will enable KT customers to use NTT DoCoMo’s Wi-Fi network if they go to Japan, with the same deal reciprocated for NTT DoCoMo’s clients in Korea.
To date users have had to enter a user ID and a password to log on to wireless networks overseas. The automatic roaming service, however, will allow users to enjoy Wi-Fi automatically. This is a big step forward for telecoms corporations working cross-boarder to improve the user experience for international business travelers. If the agreement progresses successfully it can be expected that this agreement will be replicated by others in the near future, as the global mobile internet landscape opens up.
KT is offering the service for free to the first 4,000 people who apply.
