Luxury car booking service Uber launched in South Korea this summer, and this week they have teamed up with one of Korea's hottest startups, Between, in order to leverage the companies extensive user network of couples, particularly in the Seoul metropolitan area which has a population of almost 24 million. Between started life as a messaging app for couples, but is now looking to start generating revenue, having ac
quired over 4 million users, mainly in Korea. Couples have the chance to win a free ride with Uber, as part of the joint promotion.

"We are constantly looking for companies that have a gre
at fit with us and can create synergy", explained Edward Lee, Co-Founder of Between. "In these terms, we first thought that both services, Between and Uber, have a similar user base that leads the trend. When we think about partnerships we continuously think about what type of benefit and good experience we can provide to our users. With similar user segments, we think that Uber could deliver this experience to our users."
"Second, we thought that it would be a good fit, since both companies have strengths in different regions and will be able to help each other in global expansion. Between has a presenc
e in Asia, while Uber is trying to make it's presence into Asia. We think this collaboration is a good start to help their presence here, while in return Uber can help us with Between's global expansion in markets that Between has not yet reached.
In other Between news, Joash Wee, previously at e27 in Singapore, has joined the team at Between,to further bolster the companies efforts in South East Asia.
