Japan-Korea (Sony-CJ E&M) Games Rivalry, Sparks Talk of Law Suits
2013년 01월 14일

A mobile game is at the centre of a spat between the traditional enemies, Korea and Japan. A law suit is hotting up between Sony Computer Entertainment Korea and CJ E&M for breach of intellectual property and gaming content. Although Sony’s lawyers have not begun official proceedings as yet we are expecting papers to be filed in the near future.

Everybody Cha Cha Cha, released Dec 31 2012, is a racing game available on the uber-popular South Korean social and games platform Kakao Talk. Players compete for points within the basic 3-button racing game, which allows only left, right and jump moves, but also includes the ability to view friend’s game consoles, adding to the excitement.

The now popular game was developed by Turn on Games, through CJ’s game portal, NetMarble and fits in well with other Kakao Talk games as it is very easy to use and has a strong social competition element.

Kakao Talk released their first game, AniPang last summer having diversified away from a basic messaging application to include a number of other services, including Kakao Story and the wildly popular Kakao Games.

Sony is rumored to be considering legal proceedings against CJ E&M as Everybody Cha Cha Cha appears to have copied one of the 12 mini games within their own game, Minna no Sukkiri (Everybody’s Stress Buster) which, like the South Korean game is a 3-button left, right and jump racing game, where crashing earns you more points.
