DEV Korea's Startup Acceleration Program 'Start it Up in New York' Demo Day will be held in seoul this afternoon. DEV Korea is one of a growing number of domestic and international accelerators in Seoul that are capitalizing on the rapid growth in the domestic startup ecosystem
Sparklabs will also hold their demo day December 11.
DEV Korea was nominated as the 2014 Global Accelerator Develop Management Agency by the Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning and National IT Industry Promotion Agency. “Since August we have been managing Acceleration Program 'Start it Up in New York' in hope of Startup growth and their fundraising,” a representative said in an interview.
DEV Korea's Startup Acceleration Program, 'Start it Up in New York,' provides mentoring from Digital Entertainment Ventures from New York as well as opportunities to meet with Angels, venture capitalists and other leading international companies in Korea and the USA. Unique to the DEV program, all participating startups spent one month in New York and received help from international law firms for their patent issues and contract assessments.
There will also be a New York demo day where local investors like ARC Angel Fund and Golden Seeds will size up the Korean startups for follow-on investments.
Below is an introduction to the eight graduating startups:
Botem have developed an ‘IoT Smart Switch’ that tracks people's movements and entry status. It is widely used for buildings in South Korea and power plants in UAE.
Rich Slide invented a mirror that shows advertisements as it senses people's presence. They are a newly founded company, yet on a fast track. They have garnered a great deal of international interest, particularly with international advertising companies. They are already under contract with LG U+ (a mobile carrier in Korea) and many other major companies.
Pin Story - Similar to Yelp, Pin Story is a business directory which also contains an e-commerce element. It particularly targets the rapidly growing numbers of Chinese tourists.
Mushroom - Their goal is to break away from current arts market that only contains high value works. They are targeting markets overseas, by giving opportunities to indie artists through Indie an online Art Dealing Platform.
Tappy Toon - Its service is based on a Digital Motion Comics platform with the contents mostly based on high quality Korean comics. It breaks language barriers and provides their content globally.
MoonRock - As the k-pop is becoming popular around the world, MoonRack has develop a one-stop solution for global k-pop fans. They are currently providing their popular K-pop platform in the USA and South America.
Goonies - With a tablet pc compatible palette for kids, Goonies providean intuitive drawing experience, that is very similar to drawing on an actual paper.
Soundmate have a fresh approach to music-based SNS. Their network allows multiple users to listen to music at same time.
