Baemin Fresh, a fresh food delivery service has acquired ‘Ongkasomsi’, provider of packed lunches. Through this acquisition, Baemin Fresh will actively seek to increase their range of food delivery services that are delivered to the doorstep of their customers.
In 2008, Onkasomsi recruited chef Hong Su Min who is recognized for Korean fusion recipes. Through this partnership, the company developed over 150 thousand different menu items for packed lunches and catering services. The company was also recognized by the Korean Ministry of Culture and Tourism for their contribution towards promoting Korean food.
Baemin Fresh will add the ‘packed lunch’ and catering services to the services it already provides in the Seoul, Kyounggi and Incheon areas. This provides a population of 20 million people the freedom to have a chef prepared lunch delivered to their door before leaving for work each morning.
To support the lunch and catering delivery service, Baemin Fresh has setup dedicated kitchens in Seoul’s Gangnam and YeokSam districts.
For the past 10 years, the packed lunch market has grown 10 times in size, a trend that does not look to slow down given Korea’s work centered lifestyle. The service offered by Baemin Fresh is ‘Door to door – cold chain’ which delivers fresh produce direct from the producer to the consumer. The estimated market value of the packed lunch market in Korea is approximately US$2 to $2.5 billion (KRW 2.5 to 3 trillion).
Jo Song Woo from Baemin Fresh commented, “The acquisition allows us to control from the cooking to the delivery and deliver chef cooked lunches fresh to the consumer’s doorstep. We will continue to develop services that support the busy lifestyles of modern families in Korea through fresh foods”.
Another recent acquisition made by Baemin Fresh was in ‘The Food’ which manufactures traditional Korean side dishes. The list of food products offered by Baemin Fresh include side dishes, lunches, bakery, juice, vegetables, fruit and meats with more than 3000 items on offer.
