Although Michael Bay stole many of the headlines for his walkout at CES Samsung have been trying to regain the spotlight and have claimed with confidence that the will grab top market share of UHD TV sales in the first quarter of 2014.
"Although our launch of UHD TV was little late, we are confident that we will take the world's No. 1 position within the first quarter," Yoon Boo-Keun, head of Samsung's Consumer Electronics Division, said at CES in Las Vegas and added, "Last year Samsung posted record-high sales revenue and profit and it will do the same this year with innovative products."
He also said, "This year, Samsung will take the leading position in the emerging UHD TV market as well." According to DisplaySearch, the market share of Samsung in the world's UHD TV segment was 10.1 percent in the third quarter, stopping short of Sony's 23.4 percent. But the Korean company is overtaking Sony in October with a 48.3-percent share in the German market while accounting for more than 60-percent shares in European markets such as the UK, Switzerland, and Denmark during the fourth quarter.
Mr. Yoon said of the "bendable UHD TV," "We will launch it well after the introduction of the curved TV." As for the OLED TV, he commented, "It may take another three to five years to be perfected as a consumer good."
